Star Singer - Jan 2021

This is Bob Andrews’ 1950 4AB Roadster. This picture was taken before Bob carried out some carefully considered changes. It was a highly original car, except for the paintwork, some chrome and an excellent Bill Haverly fibreglass gearbox cover. The car is an early blade bumper model built in 1950, with leatherette-covered seats (pre vynide days) which Bob had re-upholstered in leather. A 4:44 differential was fitted and the speedo recalibrated. The engine copes perfectly even with a 1 in 3 gradient and the general acceleration appears much better, but of course, making full use of the gears. Top gear acceleration is  down as a result, but mpg on a run is an easy 40 at 50mph cruising, and local is almost 35, which was the best he could get on a run before!
